We are pleased to share that two CARE4NEt research members, Mr. Mohamed Amine Bouchlaghem and Dr. Houssem Eddine Ben-Ahmed, have just published an original peer-reviewed paper in the Journal – Revue Francophone Internationale de Recherche Infirmière. This scholarly contribution is a significant addition to the Strategic Theme 4 | Nursing Leadership & Political Action, one of the six strategic themes guiding our Network’s mission.
The aim of this paper is to present a critical reflection on medical hegemony, which has colonized the nursing profession in Tunisia for several decades. The authors offer a global overview of nursing education and practice and discuss the socio-political issues impeding the advancement of the nursing discipline. Inspired by the perspective of Freire’s critical pedagogy, they emphasized the importance of deconstructing medical hegemony by proposing promising avenues to advance the sociopolitical component in nursing sciences. The authors used emancipatory nursing knowledge to structure their critical analysis by inviting the nursing profession to question the hegemonic status quo, with the aim of bringing about significant changes to the nursing profession. It appears that conscientizing nurses of hegemonic and oppressive practices could promote their empowerment, or even consolidate their collaboration with other health professionals, to provide safe and exemplary care to patients.
This achievement reflects the growing impact of CARE4NEt’s research community and the dedication of our members to fostering innovation and excellence in nursing leadership.
We warmly congratulate Mr. Bouchlaghem and Dr. Ben-Ahmed on this important work and invite our community to read and share their work. Stay tuned for more updates from our dynamic research network!
